Bart Campbell
Mr. Campbell is the Chief Executive of the Sports Marketing and Management business, Essentially Group which was recently acquired by full FTSE quoted Chime Communications PLC, Chaired by Lord Bell. He has joined the executive board of Chime Group. He has worked in London since 1997, initially as in-house counsel for Greenwich NatWest Investment Bank and then since 1999 as a sports business entrepreneur.
In 1999 Mr. Campbell founded Global Sports Management Ltd (GSM) that became a world leader in its space, reversing GSM into Essentially Group May 2006, simultaneously completing the IPO of the enlarged business.
As Chief Executive of the until recently AIM listed Essentially Group, Mr. Campbell was responsible for all fundraising, securing 15 institutional blue chip shareholders; including, Aberdeen Asset Management, AXA Framlington, Barclays, Close, Legal & General and UBS, setting and meeting public market forecasts, delivering results in both UK GAAP and IFRS, identifying, making and
integrating 5 strategic and accretive acquisitions. Actual reported EPS growth for the year ending 2006 and 2007 was +180%. Staff grew from 20 to 120 during this period with head office in London and subsidiaries in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, India and Japan. The business has grown its enterprise value from $17 million at the time of IPO to $55 million on exit, culminating in a final sale to Chime Group. The offer represented a 150%+ premium to the market price at the date of the announcement of the approach and a multiple of circa 11 x earnings.
Mr. Campbell is a former practicing sports and commercial lawyer, with a BA and LLB from Otago University in his native New Zealand. Mr. Campbell passed the bar before completing a Masters in Commercial Law (hons) from Auckland University, with the thesis researched and written whilst at University in the USA on “How the major leagues are organized commercially.”
